Research, collecting, and off-trail educational use: The City of Gainesville recognizes the value of its conservation properties for research, specimen collection, and off-trail educational use. Due to our close proximity to a major research institution, a wide variety of research projects and field courses take place in the parks. The heavy demand for this type of activity means that such activities must be carefully coordinated to avoid ecological impacts, conflicts among researchers, and interference with land management activities. Individuals wanting to conduct research, collecting, or field projects in any of the city’s natural areas must first obtain a Special Use Authorization.
