The Standard at Gainesville Move-In Impacts

It is student move-in time in Gainesville! This year, that includes The Standard at Gainesville, located at the intersection of 13th Street and University Avenue, opening its doors to 1,200 students on Friday, Aug. 18. Given the location and number of students, the City of Gainesville is providing an unprecedented level of coordination to ensure the building and site are safe for students moving in, pedestrians and motorists.

The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is working with its Traffic Safety team to minimize impacts to 13th Street and University Avenue traffic during this time, but it is going to be a very active and congested area. Changes in traffic patterns in the area will be in effect Friday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 19. Motorists should expect road closures on Northwest 14th Street adjacent to The Standard and expect heavy traffic on Northwest Fifth and Third Avenues during the move-in period.

Maintaining public safety is of the utmost importance to the City of Gainesville. City staff will continue to guide coordination with the developer during the final construction of the retail spaces and completion of the hotel in the coming months.

Collaboration started in February 2017, when the city initiated weekly meetings with the construction team. City inspectors have been working full time and after hours to ensure that the building is ready for occupancy and safe for residents and the general public. GPD proactively contacted The Standard leasing team to develop a move-in plan to minimize disruptions to traffic around the area. These additional services are being paid for by the developer.
