Eligibility Requirements
Qualifications for the Non-Certified Firefighter:

Must be 18 years of age at the time of employment

Must have graduated from high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma

Must obtain a State of Florida Firefighter Certification with one year from the date of employment

Must obtain State of Florida EMT Certification within one year from date of employment

Must have a valid Florida Driver's License at time of employment

Must have a valid State of Florida Firefighter certificate of compliance at time of employment

Must obtain State of Florida EMT Certification within one year from date of employment

Must have a valid Florida Driver's License at time of employment
All applicants must comply with Gainesville Fire Rescue's tobacco use prohibition policy: must be a non-user of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application date of position and thereafter.
Non-Certified Firefighter to Certified Firefighter Training Process
Non-Certified firefighters will initially be assigned to the fire academy for the Firefighter Minimum Standards Course conducted at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala, Fla. The Minimum Standards Course is a 12-week course, eight hours a day, five days a week. After successful completion of the Firefighter Minimum Standards Course, non-certified firefighters must take, and successfully complete, the Firefighter Minimum Standards Examination. Upon receipt of the Firefighter Minimum Standards Equivalency Examination, the firefighter will promoted to a certified firefighter and will be assigned to the Training Bureau for additional training as part of the Firefighter Orientation Program.
Certified Firefighter Training Process
Certified firefighters will initially be assigned to the Gainesville Fire Rescue Training Bureau for orientation and training. This training is a 40 hours a week for at least four weeks.
