Engine & Truck Co. Visits:
The Gainesville Fire Rescue Department frequently receives requests for personnel and fire trucks to visit schools, churches or community events. This is an important part of our ongoing fire safety education effort and we welcome these opportunities. The Public Education Specialist will make arrangements for the fire rescue unit closest to your location to deliver the most appropriate presentation for the age group. |

Public Education Presentation:
GFR Public Education Specialists create programs cater to the safety topic of your choice or a combination of fire safety topics geared toward the age of your group. Topics may include fire extinguisher training, bicycle safety, pedestrian safety, office fire safety, science of fire and many more. |

Fire Station Tours:
The fire station is home for our firefighters while on shift. Gainesville Fire Rescue firefighters open their home to the public for a sneak peak into what life is like as a firefighter in Gainesville. Firefighters provide the grand tour of the station while educating your group on fire safety do’s and don’ts. The station tour concludes with a tour of the engine and all the tools and other supplies kept on board. |

Fire Extinguisher Training:
Gainesville Fire Rescue performs fire extinguisher training for groups of ten or more. The training class includes a 15-minute presentation in which participants learn the proper time and technique for using an extinguisher. To help facilitate learning the proper use of a fire extinguisher a specially designed trailer was created. This trailer allows participants to safely practice putting out a real fire as part of the learning process. |

Fire Safety House:
What better way to learn how to safely escape from a smoky house then to actually do it? The fire safety house is a tool GFR uses to simulate conditions families will face in a real emergency. Children are taken through this child sized mobile house that features a living room, kitchen and upstairs bedroom. In each room, children are taught the common safety hazards and how to make their home safer. Then the house fills up with non-toxic smoke and the children are guided to safety outside the home. |
