College Park/University Heights (CPUH) Façade Grant Program
The Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is offering a competitive, matching grant program as an incentive to owners of buildings and businesses to improve building façades located on specifically targeted corridors within the College Park/University Heights Redevelopment District (CPUH). The purpose of the grant program is to use Tax Increment Finance to leverage private investment in making significant improvements to building facades, which return public benefits such as enhanced corridor aesthetics, improved pedestrian comfort, and public safety.

Applying For Funding is Easy:
- Download the application or request an application by calling the CRA at (352) 334-2205.
- Determine if your property is in the Façade Grant Program using the map, or call the CRA for assistance.
- Fill in the information form and gather cost estimates, drawings,photographs and proof of building ownership.
- If you need design assistance, contact the CRA for more information.
- Mail in the entire packet on or before May 19, 2008 by 5:00 pm.

What types of improvements are eligible for the program?
Eligible expenses include: windows and doors, signs, lighting, painting, awnings, raising storefront height, removing old structures from the facade, fences, masonry work, and other related tasks. A complete list can be found on the grant application.
How much funding am I eligible for?
Each façade will be eligible for up to $10,000 plus an additional $10,000 for a second storefront or elevation visible from the main corridor. No grants will exceed $50,000, and each grant must be matched dollar for dollar by the applicant. The cash value of goods and services applied to the project are eligible match sources.
Example:
If project costs are expected to be $20,000, then the project is eligible to receive a $10,000 grant provided the applicant can provide a cash match of $10,000.
When will I receive my funding?
The applicant will receive payment after the CRA approves copies of paid invoices the applicant submitted for completed work.
How long do I have to complete the project?
Generally, the time frame for completing project is 12 months.
Can grant funds be used for design services?
Yes, architects fees are eligible. The portion of the grant used for these fees is capped at $500.
Does the CRA provide any other kinds of assistance during the façade grant project?
Yes, the CRA can provide digital design assistance to help create a conceptual illustration of the façade improvements. The conceptual illustration can be used to communicate the design to your contractor.
How long do I have to maintain the CRA-funded improvements?
The applicant must maintain the improvements in good working condition for a period of 5 years. The applicant and CRA will enter into an agreement to ensure the improvements are maintained.
