Engineering Services

The Public Works Department is preparing an update to the City’s Engineering Design & Construction Manual.  More information is available at www.gainesvillepublicworks.org.

Engineering Services Division is responsible for managing transportation and stormwater management infrastructure improvement projects, and providing surveying, construction inspection and development review and permitting services.

Roadway Projects
The Project Management Office manages the design and construction of major roadway rehabilitation projects as well as streetscape projects. Reconstruction projects also provide an opportunity to introduce roadway elements designed to increase the efficiency and safety of traffic flow, such as roundabouts; as well as incorporate facilities to meet the needs of all transportation users such as ADA ramps, sidewalks, and bike lanes.
Sidewalks & Rail Trail Projects
To meet the City's goal of adding one-mile of bicycle/pedestrian facilities to the transportation system each year, the Department focuses on expansion of the Rail Trail system as well as sidewalks along collector and high pedestrian corridors throughout the City.

Stormwater/Flood Mitigation Projects
Utlizing dedicated capital funding from the Stormwater Management Utility as well as grant opportunities such as through FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) many projects have been and are being funded to address water quality, flood mitigation, stormwater control and acquifer recharge throughout the City.
