Historic Preservation Manual
The City of Gainesville’s Historic Preservation Rehabilitation & Design Guidelines provides detailed guidelines for the alteration, addition, rehabilitation or new construction of structures located in the five historic districts. It also has information about the history of Gainesville, and the history of each district, as well as appendixes reviewing the city’s architectural periods and styles and historic materials.
If you wish to make changes or renovations to a historic structure within a historic district or individually listed structure on the Local Register of Historic Places, you must fill out an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA).
The 2017 Schedule of submission deadlines and meeting dates are available here. Please note: Prior to submission of any application for a COA, a pre-application conference must be held with the Historic Preservation Planner.
