The courts are calling for a summer of fun and competition! Come join our coed basketball program! Build character and leadership by Pursuing Victory with Honor for life skills to use on and off the court. Heatwave is about fairness and respect for all players, regardless of skill.
June 3–August 1, 2019
Ages: 9 – 18 (*18 if still in school. Age as of September 1, 2019.)
Game Times by Age: Evenings after 5:00 pm
Ages 9-10, 11-12- Fridays
Ages 13-15- Mon-Thurs
Ages 16-18- Mon- Thurs
Games: Each team will be able to play 1–2 games per week.
NO GAMES: July 3rd - 5th. Basketball play-offs will occur the last week of Heatwave.
Location: Due to program popularity, games take place in three locations: Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Multipurpose Center, Eastside High School, and Lincoln Middle School. Team locations will be determined at the mandatory meeting.
Team Registration: In order to register as a team, each team must have a coach who meets City of Gainesville volunteer guidelines. If needed, City staff will help a team find a qualified coach.
Does not apply to those registering as an individual player.
Life Skills for On and Off the Court!
Coaches will conduct a 15 minute lesson prior to every game using the Pursuing Victory with Honor curriculum from Character Counts®. All athletes participating in Heatwave must attend or they will not be allowed to participate in the games.

Operation Respect Yourself: Want to cool off and avoid the summer heat? Come to one of our pool parties! Enjoy free swimming, dancing, music and food hot off the grill courtesy of our Gainesville Police Department!
