2020 Heatwave eSports Program

Heatwave eSports (coed) 
Registration Starts Wednesday, June 23, 2020

The Heatwave program is a collaboration between the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Department, the Gainesville Police Department, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Department, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the 8th Judicial Circuit of the State Attorney’s Office. The program provides a positive alternative for teens during the summer months when too much idle time often leads to increases in juvenile crime.

Program Dates and Times: 

Basketball:
eSports NBA2K for Xbox One and PS4
Two, two-week tournaments
Starting Monday, July 13 and the second one starting Monday, July 27
Games:
Games are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after 6 p.m.

Football:
eSports Madden 20 for Xbox One and PS4
Two, two-week tournaments
Starting Tuesday, July 14 and the second one starting Tuesday, July 28
Games: Games are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m.

After downloading:
1. Create your profile
2. Join the “City of Gainesville – eSports” organization
3. Register for NB2K or Madden with the appropriate console
4. Invite your friends

Each day you should:
1. Check the app for your next matchup
2. Chat with league members or your opponent
3. Connect with your opponent
4. Reschedule your game if necessary


On game day:
1. Go online/meet up for your game at your scheduled time
2. Play your game
3. Submit your score in the app
4. Start practicing for your next game
