Youth Coed Basketball = Sportsmanship + Character


The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is gearing up for another season of great games for Youth Coed Basketball. Through fitness, fair play and sportsmanship, this program teaches youth, age 5-14, how character counts on and off the court. There are no try outs, and each participant gets to play. Registration starts Monday, Oct. 5, and runs until Thursday, Dec. 17. If you register by Thursday, Oct. 22, you will receive a $10 discount.

Participants are required to take part in an evaluation session. The evaluations will take place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose (MLK) Center, which is located at 1028 NE 14th St. Evaluation times and dates for age groups are as follows:

Thursday, Dec. 3

Friday, Dec. 4

Make-up evaluation

Ages 5-6: 6-7 p.m.
Ages 7-8: 7-8 p.m.
Ages 9-10: 8-8:45 p.m.

Ages 11-12: 6-7 p.m.
Ages 13-14: 7-8 p.m.

All ages: 8-8:45 p.m.

There is a mandatory parent meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the MLK Center from 6-8 p.m. Practice schedules will be distributed at this meeting. Games begin in January, and run through March 2016, taking place in Alachua County and the surrounding areas on Saturdays. Time of play varies by age group. Two skills clinics are being offered by the coaching staff from Eastside High School. These free clinics will be held Monday, Nov. 30 and Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center.

If you register by Thursday, Oct. 22, you will receive a $10 discount. Registration closes Thursday, Dec. 17, but team rosters may close earlier if filled.
