Coach Beverly Perry honored with the Southeast Region "Coach of the Year" Award

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is proud to announce that Cheer Coach Beverly Perry was awarded the Female Coach of the Year by the Pop Warner Southeastern Region at the Southeast Region Meeting held in Orlando, Fla. Saturday, March 14. Receiving this award is a great honor and privilege not only for Ms. Perry, but also for the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and the Putnam Athletic League.  Coach Perry has been coaching the Gainesville Gators (Putnam League) for approximately 26 years.

Kelly Nicholson, the Southeast Region Pop Warner marketing and media coordinator explains, “Being an incredible coach is not about winning. It is about teaching our future leaders about life lessons; working as a team, to have good sportsmanship, and to guide them to grow into productive young ladies. But Beverly is the whole package.” More on Coach Perry’s nomination can be viewed at

“Words cannot express what I felt or how I feel right now about receiving the Coach of the Year award.” said Coach Beverly Perry. “There are so many other deserving coaches.  I want to acknowledge my family, the coaching staff that worked so hard this year and past years, plus parent support, the City of Gainesville for their facilities and sponsorship, lastly, the Putnam Athletic League for their support and funding. I would not have been considered or nominated for the award if I did not have such a wonderful and supportive group of coaches, cheerleaders and parents.”

“We are very proud of the Gainesville Gators team’s winning fifth last year, and, this year, first in the nation,” said Steven Phillips, the director of the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. “The department is grateful for Coach Beverly’s hard work and the dedication of these young girls who made these awards possible.”
