Thomas Center Galleries Announces the TIGHTROPE - Betwixt the Magical & the Macabre Exhibition
The Thomas Center Galleries announces the opening of the TIGHTROPE - Betwixt the Magical & the Macabre art exhibition to be presented in the Historic Thomas Center’s Main Gallery from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, May 30. An opening reception for the exhibition will take place Thursday, March 26 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to meet many of the artists at the opening reception, and to enjoy a magic and mind-reading performance by Amaral, The Magic Man, at 7 p.m.
TIGHTROPE - Betwixt the Magical & the Macabre presents art balanced between the heebie-jeebies and the heroics we undertake to bolster our bravado against what goes bump in the night. Viewers are invited to enter a world of fantasy and fear given form by artists. The exhibited art encompasses a range of media with a particularly interesting selection of work by printmakers. The exhibition is intended for mature viewers, with images ranging from the fantastical to the frightening. TIGHTROPE is curated by Anne E. Gilroy. Striking images from the exhibition can be viewed at https://flic.kr/s/aHsk5CmUhp.
The Thomas Center Galleries are grateful to be able to exhibit the work of contemporary artists as well as work on loan from private collections, and to exhibit the art of established and emerging artists together.
This exhibit is held in conjunction with Jest Fest!, a free, fun, family-friendly event which is produced by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. Jest Fest! returns Sunday, March 29, from 12-6 p.m. featuring a stellar lineup of international stars, performing some of the world’s greatest comedy/variety and circus acts.
The Thomas Center Galleries are located at 302 NE Sixth Ave., Gainesville, FL 32601.
