Jewel Box Concert with Lonesome River Band at the Historic Thomas Center


The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with Shakerag Culture Center, Inc., is pleased to announce the next Jewel Box Concert at the Historic Thomas Center is Thursday, March 12. The concert features legendary bluegrass quintet Lonesome River Band. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20 at the door - cash or check only, please.

For more than 30 years, Lonesome River Band continues to set the standard in the Bluegrass music world. Their newly released song, “Her Love Won’t Turn on a Dime,” was number one for four weeks in a row on Bluegrass Today’s Top 20 Weekly Song Chart. Their long career is filled with a multitude of awards and recognitions, featuring five-time IBMA banjo player of the year Sammy Shelor, who's also the recipient of the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass. They've been called “One of the hottest bluegrass acts in the world.”

Guests are welcome to bring their favorite wine or champagne, and an attendant will tend their bottle. Plastic glasses will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own glassware as well. Authentic homemade Indian cuisine will be available for purchase.

The Jewel Box Concerts at the Thomas Center are a new series of multi-genre musical events staged in the historic Thomas Center’s Spanish Court. They will feature a spectrum of national and international touring artists from folk to classical and from jazz to bluegrass, with special holiday shows and surprise guests.
