Fred Cone Park Track Bleachers have New Shade Structures
The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and the Wild Spaces & Public Places program are pleased to announce the installation of new shade structures over the Fred Cone Park bleachers. The canopy offers shaded seating for sports spectators and spans the full length of the bleachers, which will soon accommodate up to 360 people. Measuring 125 feet long, 16 feet high and 21 feet wide, the cost of the project was $75,275.00 and was funded by the Wild Spaces & Public Places half-cent sales tax.
Located at 2841 East University Avenue, Fred Cone Park has one of the few lit public multipurpose sports fields in Gainesville. Currently, the City is improving drainage and turf on the field for continued use for youth league sporting events. The field was holding water after significant rain events, making it unplayable for multiple days. The field is closed while improvements take place and is anticipated to reopen in the fall.
