Spring Swim Lessons Start April 3

3/26/2018

The weather is getting warmer, and that means it is time to get in the water! The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) is offer two sessions of group swim lessons and several private lessons this spring. Water safety is key to enjoying time at the pool or by the shore, and the lessons are available for any age and skill level to help build confidence.

The spring group lessons take place at the Dwight H. Hunter (Northeast) Pool, 1100 NE 14th Ave. The first session starts April 3, and the second on May 1. Each session is four weeks, with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a possible weather-related make-up day on Friday. Lessons are available for ages six months to adult. For those unsure their child’s skill level, swim tests are available at Northeast Pool, Monday through Friday, 4-7 p.m.

Private swim lessons are intended for those looking to improve their stroke for training purposes, as well as beginners who may be apprehensive about putting their face in the water.  Private swim lessons are designed to allow the student the opportunity to work one-on-one with a swim instructor at their own pace. These lessons are tailored to meet each participant’s specific needs and goals. Sessions start April 7, and consist of four half-hour classes held over consecutive Saturdays. Classes are held at Northeast Pool, with the exception of the June 9 session, which takes place at H. Spurgeon Cherry (Westside) Pool, 1001 NW 31st Dr.

The fees for both group and private lessons are $49.25 for city residents and $74.50 for non-city residents. A Gainesville Regional Utilities bill or voter identification card are required for residency verification at the time of registration.

Registration is available online at https://tinyurl.com/gnvSwimLessons or in person at the PRCA Administrative Office, Thomas Center, Building B, 3rd Floor, 306 NE Sixth Avenue. Office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please register at least 48 hours prior to the first lesson.
