The Urban Forestry Program is holding a public meeting to discuss an urban forest plan for our city. The event is Monday, April 8 between 6-8 p.m. in the Thomas Center's Spanish Court (302 NE Sixth Ave.).

Duval Park, which is located at 520 NE 21st St., will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 26 to complete the replacement of all of the boardwalks in the park. It is anticipated that the park will reopen in July 2019. During the construction, pedestrians are encouraged to use Northeast 25th Street.

The City of Gainesville presents a Gainesville150! anniversary concert Saturday, April 13 from 6-11:30 p.m. at Bo Diddley Plaza in downtown Gainesville. The concert features four bands that pay tribute to the music of Gainesville’s nine Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musicians; Bo Diddley, Stephen Stills, the Eagles and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, in addition to the headliner, The Bayjacks featuring Tom Leadon of Mudcrutch. There are also food trucks, craft vendors, contests, roving street performers and Story Cycle, a mobile recording booth on a bicycle that peddles through the downtown area and allows residents to record their Gainesville stories for posterity.

City of Gainesville officials anticipate severe weather conditions, including temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit during evening hours, Friday, March 22. The anticipated temperatures will lead to the activation of the city's Cold Night Shelter (CNS) Program, and it is expected to remain in effect until overnight low temperatures rise above 45 F. The CNS program normally runs from Nov. 1 through March 31.

City of Gainesville elections will be held Tuesday, March 19. Registered voters in district four will elect a commissioner to represent its district, and registered voters citywide will elect the mayor and vote on a charter referendum. Early voting is available Saturday, March 9-Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., except Tuesday and Thursday, which will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Early voting has five designated sites: the Supervisor of Elections Office (515 N. Main St.), the Reitz Union (655 Reitz Union Dr., room G-50), the Senior Recreation Center (5701 NW 34th St.), the MLK Center (1028 NE 14th St.) and the Millhopper Branch Library (3145 NW 43rd St.). The City of Gainesville’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) is holding the first of a series of meetings to discuss and gather public input regarding the development of the Incentives and Recommendations Report (IRR) on Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. at the Gainesville/Alachua County Senior Center (5701 NW 34th Blvd).

City of Gainesville voters will vote on an amendment to the city’s charter during the 2019 City of Gainesville Regular Election.
