Gainesville Mayor Ed Braddy has been selected to participate in the Third Americas Competitiveness Exchange on Innovation (ACE) from Sunday, April 19 to Friday, April 24. Sponsored by the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC) through the Organization of the American States and the United States government, the program invites key leaders and decision makers to experience firsthand successful projects and experiences in the Midwest U.S. States of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Early voting for the April 14, 2015 City of Gainesville Run-Off Election started today, Monday, April 6 and continues through Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Gainesville City Manager Russ Blackburn is pleased to announce that after a rigorous search process, Interim Fire Chief Jeffrey J. Lane has been chosen to lead the Gainesville Fire Rescue Department, as its next Fire Chief. Chief Lane’s appointment to the position of Fire Chief is effective Monday, March 30, 2015.

Jest Fest!, a free, fun, family-friendly event produced by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department returns this spring Sunday, March 29, from 12-6 p.m. for its third season. Jest Fest! features a stellar lineup of international stars, performing some of the world’s greatest comedy/variety and circus acts.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is excited to announce the 2015 Gainesville Biathlon Challenge race schedule. If you want to test your athletic ability or set a new goal, this annual series of races are a fun and affordable choice!

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, in cooperation with Shakerag Culture Center, Inc., is pleased to announce the upcoming Jewel Box Concert at the Historic Thomas Center is Sunday, April 19, featuring the neo-folk, world rock ensemble HuDost.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door - cash or check only.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is proud to announce that Cheer Coach Beverly Perry was awarded the Female Coach of the Year by the Pop Warner Southeastern Region at the Southeast Region Meeting held in Orlando, Fla., Saturday, March 14. Receiving this award is a great honor and privilege not only for Ms. Perry, but also for the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and the Putnam Athletic League. Coach Perry has been coaching the Gainesville Gators (Putnam League) for approximately 26 years.
