Applications for the City of Gainesville Special Assessment for Fire Services 2014 Fire Flow Mitigation Credit Program are now available. Gainesville offers a Fire Flow Mitigation Credit to eligible city property owners whose buildings are subject to the city fire services special assessment.

Applications for the City of Gainesville Special Assessment for Fire Services Hardship Assistance Programs are now available. The city offers two hardship programs, one for low-income senior citizens age 65 and over, and another for low-income citizens. Applications for the Special Assessment for Fire Services Hardship Assistance Programs for the 2014-2015 fiscal year are due by May 1, 2014. Approved applications are only good for one year. New applications must be submitted each year that the program is available. Senior applicants that were previously approved will need to only fill out the renewal form.

Gainesville Fire Rescue is hosting its Third Annual Citizens' Fire Academy - participants 18 years and older can enjoy the hands-on experiences of the Fire Rescue profession. An application must be submitted by Friday, February 14, 2014. The academy will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the GFR Support Services building, which is  located at 1026 NE 14th Street. The application is available online or call Risk Reduction Specialist Krista Ott at 393-8461 for more information.

The 2014 calendar (pdf) is now available for downloading. Photographs in the calendar are finalists of the Fifth Annual Gainesville Photography Contest: One Gainesville. The pages are 8.5"x14" and cardstock is recommended. Please note, the size of the file is large since it is a printable, hi-resolution calendar.

Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 is the last day to register to vote for the March 11, 2014 City of Gainesville Election. The Supervisor of Elections Office is open Monday through friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. to accept voter registration applications. Registration forms are available online at www.votealachua.com. All eligible City of Gainesville voters may vote in the At-large race. Only eligible voters living in City District 2 and City District 3 are eligible to vote in their respective races. If you have any questions, please visit www.votealachua.com or contact the Supervisor of Elections Office at 352-374-5252.

With the freezing temperatures predicted for this week, the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will run its backflow preventers throughout the parks and facilities system continuously. This means that the irrigation systems continuously drip in order to prevent freezing, which can damage the irrigation components.

The City of Gainesville is pleased to announce the 2014 State of the City Address will be delivered Wednesday, Jan. 22 at noon at the Hippodrome State Theatre, located at 25 SE Second Place in Gainesville. The Honorable Mayor Ed Braddy, accompanied by City Manager Russ Blackburn and interim General Manager for Utilities Kathy Viehe, will deliver the annual State of the City Address, which will feature highlights from 2013 and lay out the vision for the continued success of Gainesville.
