Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department Welcomes New Development and Partnership Program Coordinator
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department welcomes Alicia Antone as its new development and partnership program coordinator. Her primary responsibilities include forging new relationships and strengthening existing relationships with partners, sponsors, funders and grantors. This includes conducting a full-range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage new grant proposals for public and private funders and identifying sources of restricted and unrestricted funding.
Director Steven Phillips explains, “This is a new position and is funded not through the general fund, but through a new revenue source. As a recommendation from the city’s Vision 2020 Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Master Plan, the City Commission approved a 10 percent surcharge on current fees the department collects, except for youth programs. The funds generated annually will more than offset the position and they will be used across the entire department.”
Antone graduated from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I. She later received a master's degree in Public Administration and a master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Rhode Island. She received a Certificate in Fundraising Management from Indiana University’s, The Fundraising School at the Center on Philanthropy located in Indianapolis, Ind.
Antone has devoted her career to the field of library studies, including research, fundraising and grants development. Her experience and talents will be a valuable asset in securing and cementing new and current partnerships for the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. Antone’s successes at her most recent position, as the executive director of the Matheson Museum, provided her with excellent community networking making her the perfect candidate for the position.
