Ride with the Commish Scheduled to Kick Off Florida Bike Month

The Public Works Department kick offs Florida Bike Month with a Ride with the Commish Saturday, March 5 beginning at 9 a.m.

Bicycle enthusiasts are invited to join City Commissioners and staff to kick off a month of activities to highlight the health and economic benefits of cycling, local infrastructure improvements and future plans. The three-mile ride will begin at 9 a.m. at Civilization restaurant, located at 1511 NW Second St., and end at Boulware Springs Nature Park, 3300 SE 15th St. Parking will be available in the vacant lot across from Civilization or along Northwest 14th and 15th Avenues.  The ride will showcase the Sixth Street Trail and nearby projects with brief descriptions by staff. All levels of bike riders are welcome and encouraged to attend. The bike route can be viewed at and has highlighted points of interest.

Throughout March, the community will host many other rides and events organized by the Gainesville Cycling Club, the Active Streets Alliance, local bicycle shops and others.
