Here’s something to cheer about! On Oct. 18, the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department’s Pop Warner Cheerleading squads, the Gator Midget and Jr. Pee Wee, placed first and second respectively in their divisions at the Mid-Florida League Cheer Championships in Kissimmee, Florida. Additionally, the Midget cheer squad received the Mid-Florida Association Royal scepter award for earning the highest score of the day out of the 82 cheer and dance squads competing.
Both squads advanced to the Pop Warner Regional Cheerleading Championship that will be held Nov. 27-30, 2014, in Orlando, Florida. Last year, the Gator Jr. Midget division squad placed first at the regional competition, and continued to the Pop Warner National Championships, where they placed fifth.
The Gainesville Gator Pop Warner Cheerleaders, along with their coaching staff, consider it an honor to represent the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) on the regional and national stages. “We consider our teams ambassadors for the PRCA youth athletic programs and that is something to cheer about!” said Beverly Perry, head coach for the team.
The squads are as follows:
