Neighborhood Workshop Scheduled to Discuss Proposed Right-of-Way Vacation at Kiwanis Girl Scout Park
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) and Wild Spaces & Public Places (WSPP) are hosting a workshop to discuss the proposed right-of-way vacation in the center of Kiwanis Girl Scout Park. Interested members of the public are invited to attend Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 6-7 p.m. at the Kiwanis Girl Scout Park Building, located at 810 NW Eighth St. The right-of-way to be vacated is located west of Northwest Eighth Street, north of Northwest Eighth Avenue and south of Northwest Ninth Avenue. The property will be conveyed to the City of Gainesville, and combined into adjacent city-owned parcels. The land will have a PS (public services) zoning, matching the adjacent zoning and becoming public park property.
The future park improvement project at Kiwanis Girl Scout Park will be funded with the Wild Spaces & Public Places half-cent sales tax. The WSPP sales tax, collected from January 2017 to December 2024, will continue to create, improve and maintain parks and recreational facilities, and acquire and improve environmentally-sensitive lands.
