Youth Coed Basketball = Sportsmanship + Character

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is getting geared up for another season of great games for Youth Coed Basketball. Through fitness, fair play and sportsmanship, the program teaches youth, age 5-14, how character counts on and off the court. There are no try outs, and each participant gets to play.

Practice starts Monday, Dec. 2 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multipurpose Center, which is located at 1028 NE 14th St., from 6-8 p.m. Games will begin in January, and will run through March 2014, taking place in Alachua County and the surrounding areas.

To help players’ improve their skills, there will be a special two-night clinic at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multipurpose Center hosted by Eastside High School Varsity Boys basketball Coach Herman “Pop” Williams and the Eastside Basketball team. For 5-10 year-olds, the clinic will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 6-8 p.m., and for 11-14 year-olds, it will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, from 6-8 p.m.

If you register by Monday, Dec. 2, you will receive a $10 discount. Registration closes Thursday, Dec. 19. For detailed information on age groups, Parents Association for Youth Sports (P.A.Y.S.) requirements and prices, visit our Youth Activities Web page.
