The City Commission will hold a special meeting Thursday, May 4 at noon to officially swear-in Commissioner Helen Warren (at-large 2), Commissioner-elect Harvey Ward (district 2) and Commissioner-elect David Arreola (district 3). Commissioner Warren, Commissioner-elect Ward and Commissioner-elect Arreola were all elected in March. Each will each serve a three-year term in office. In addition, the City Commission will elect a Mayor-Commissioner Pro Tem for the 2017-2018 term. Commissioner Helen Warren currently serves as Mayor-Commissioner Pro Tem.

The swearing in ceremony will take place at the Thelma Boltin Center, which is located at 516 NE Second Ave. Limited parking is available in the parking lot directed across from the Thelma Boltin Center. Attendees should arrive early to ensure they have a seat at the ceremony.

Members of the news media are asked to prominently display media credentials. Doors will open to media representatives for set-up at 11 a.m. City staff will direct media representatives to set-up locations. All media representatives are asked to complete set-up of cameras and audio recorders not later than 11:40 a.m.

**Please note, due to the oath of office at noon, the start time of the regularly scheduled city commission meeting is delayed until 1:40 p.m.

City of Gainesville elections are Tuesday, March 14. Registered voters citywide will elect the at-large (seat 2) commissioner, and registered voters in districts two and three will each elect a commissioner to represent its district.

City of Gainesville elections will be held Tuesday, March 14. Registered voters citywide will elect the at-large (seat 2) commissioner, and registered voters in districts two and three will each elect a commissioner to represent its district. Early voting is available Monday, March 6-Saturday, March 11 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., except Tuesday and Thursday, which will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Early voting has three designated sites: the Supervisor of Elections Office (515 N. Main St.), the Cone Park Library (2801 E. University Ave.) and the Millhopper Branch Library (3145 NW 43rd St.). The City Commission will hold a special meeting Thursday, May 5 at noon to officially swear in Mayor-elect Lauren Poe and Commissioner-elect Adrian Hayes-Santos (district 4). Mayor-elect Lauren Poe and Commissioner-elect Adrian Hayes-Santos were both elected in March. Each will each serve a three-year term in office. In addition, the City Commission will elect a Mayor-Commissioner Pro Tem for the 2016-2017 term. Commissioner Craig Carter currently serves as Mayor-Commissioner Pro Tem.
