A groundbreaking ceremony for Gainesville Fire Rescue’s newest fire station, Station 1, will be held at 8 a.m. Monday, April 17 at 525 S. Main St. The new Fire Station 1 will be located a mere block away from the existing Station 1, and will continue to serve the downtown area and adjacent neighborhoods. The original Station 1 was built in 1962, but has outlived the building’s lifespan.

Residents or students interested in a crash course on local government and city planning and management need look no further than the City of Gainesville itself. Gainesville 101: the 2017 Citizens' Academy is a seven-week program organized by the City of Gainesville Communications Office, and is designed to teach city residents about the inner workings of local government and city management.

The City of Gainesville is celebrating Florida City Government Week, October 16-22, 2016. For the 11th consecutive year, the City of Gainesville Communications Office is teaming with the School Board of Alachua County by inviting a group of fifth grade students to visit City Hall Tuesday, Oct. 18 where they will learn about city government.

With the summer heating up, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) has cool, free teen programs to keep the fun going all season long. Summer Heatwave is back with Coed Basketball, a Teen Lounge and Pool Parties!
