The City of Gainesville hosted a visioning session to discuss the reuse of the C.R. Layton United States Army Reserve Center on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. The visioning session was a facilitated session that engaged participants to help identify visions, issues and opportunities for the future use of the property.
The property, which is located at 1125 NE Eighth Ave., was owned by the City of Gainesville until 1950. At that time, the city transferred ownership of the property to the federal government, and the property housed the C.R. Layton United States Army Reserve Center until recently. The original deed included a reverter clause, allowing ownership of the property to be transferred back to the city if it was no longer needed by the federal government. The City of Gainesville expects to take back ownership in the near future, and sought feedback from residents of surrounding neighborhoods and other interested citizens.
