Inspections

Inspections are the quality assurance part of the customer service we provide to our community. A passed inspection means that an inspector, certified by the State of Florida, has checked the work of the licensed contractor or "owner builder" and determined that the work performed complies with the codes in effect at the time of the inspection.

Contractors who are registered with the City of Gainesville Building Inspection Department can now register to use the Citizen's Access Portal at any time to schedule an inspection for any future workday.   The following tutorials will assist contractors in registering, logging in, and using our new Citizen Access Portal:

     Citizen Access - Go To Citizen Access and Check Browser Compatibility

     Citizen Access - Register, Link Account, Log In, and Log Out

     Citizen Access - Request an Inspection

     Citizen Access - Forgot/Change Password

All other inspection requests may be called in Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm by calling (352)334-5050. Please have the following information ready for the customer service person;

     Permit Number

     Address

     Type of inspection requested

     Any special instructions for the inspector (Requests to call prior to inspection are limited to 30 minutes in advance.)

Inspection requests made by contractors through the Citizen Access Portal will be scheduled for the date requested provided that they are received prior to 4:30 pm on the day prior to the requested inspection, and all other inspections will be scheduled for the next working day, however, the actual inspection may need to be rescheduled subject to the inspection workload and the availability of inspectors. Inspections are performed between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday unless other arrangements are made in advance with the inspector.  If you would like to check on the status of a permit or inspection, please check out our Public Permit Access section in the ribbon on the left.  If you're not familiar with the operation of our Public Permit Access section, check out the tutorial.
